There are certainly a lot more people who just stumble over fandom without having any particularly strong social ties to it now. (So they don't pick up the social mores at the same rate in the same way.)
But, honestly, the reblogs on that post make it clear what's actually going on:
About 90% of them say something like: "You hear that, assholes pretending you have the moral high ground? You don't!"
The other 10% say: "This is a great post, but obviously you can't have meant to defend [my NOTP]."
